《Building a Bridge》

AoA (apartment of art /Apartment der Kunst) is a free, independent art space located in the middle of the so called downtown Munich art area (Kunstareal). Throughout the long and intense relation of its operator, artist Lars Koepsel and his wife Li-Mei Shie with contemporary artists from Taiwan since the early 1990s, it was possible to create a stable and trendsetting artist residency exchange between Taiwan and Munich. Lars Koepsel and Li-Mei Shie will talk about the process of building the roots, creating some valuable output and give some possibilities and future prospects of promoting this long term project in cooperation with strong partners in Taiwan and Germany: City of Munich, TAV, and Goethe Institute Taipei.

Speaker: Lars Koepsel

German Artist Lars Koepsel was born in 1964. He came to Taiwan for the first time in 1993 together with his wife Shie Li-Mei. As they are coming back nearly every year since then, Taiwan became a second home. He not only established friendship with numerous Taiwanese artists, but also realizing a number of exhibitions and projects such as, 1997 in Bamboo Curtain Studio, 1999 DEOA, 2010 IT Park , 2014 VT Artsalon, built a deep interest and understanding for contemporary art in Taiwan.

Lars´ artistic work is mostly text based on handwriting and is mainly conceptually located in a philosophical framework.

From 2013, he runs the independent art space AoA in Munich and is responsible for the art and residency exchange program between Munich and Taiwan, with partners such as City of Munich, TAV, and Goethe Institute Taipei.
