Technics: Art and the Contemporary Turn – Forum

Art is technics, and technics is craftsmanship, skill, and art itself. The West has a long history in exploring the relationship between technics and art, encompassing everything from the unique realm of handcrafted skills to sophisticated expertise of rational intellect. However, today, our understanding of technics seems to have moved beyond spiritual transformation on the unity of hand and mind, focusing instead on inventive pragmatism. What exactly is “technics” in human civilization? And how does “art” establish a form of creation between technics and the humanities?

The forum uses”technics” as a question connecting the contemporary nature of art,

departing from classic texts and viewpoints of important scholars in history,

to open up pluralistic thinking for the contemporary world that is undergoing

tremendous changes and transformations.
